Join us for worship on Sundays at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m.
Summer Worship From Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend there is only one service at 9:00 a.m.
In the Lutheran Church, we celebrate the grace of God by gathering together weekly to worship Him and to receive His gifts of grace. While the Bible does not prescribe a specific style of worship – that is, contemporary or traditional – it does guide us to worship reverently and humbly as we enter into the very presence of God.
At St. James we follow a liturgical pattern of worship, which we view as a dialogue between God and His people. Our musical style is varied. Sometimes we worship using a traditional organ; at other times the flute, bells, brass instruments or the guitar. Our choice of music and instruments celebrates the unique gifts of those in our community.
Every service at St. James is an opportunity to gather in the name of the Triune God and to receive the gifts that bind us together as one body in service to Him.
Please join us in celebration and worship.
The nursery is available in the Community Center for children able to separate from their parents and will not need a diaper change. Tanya Sanchez is the Nursery Manager who will be taking care of your child.
Children’s Church & Sunday School
Children’s church is a special time during the 9:00 a.m. service for children preschool age through kindergarten. The children will begin worship with their families and then come downstairs for an age appropriate lesson during middle portion of the worship service.
Sunday school is offered on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. during the school year for children in grades 1-3.
Children in Worship
We know children can be a handful in a worship service. We believe God wants your children to be part of the worship time and that you can begin training them once they reach first grade. To help you, here are some suggestions:
- Sit closer to the front than the back. There are too many distractions under the balcony.
- Get a booster seat from the Narthex so they can see better and engage with the service.
- Worship with them, teaching them to follow the service folder, sing the hymns and read together.
- During the sermon let them use a children’s bag found in the narthex equipped with appropriate games and activities.
- They are children and will not be perfect. We expect an occasional “melt down” so hang in there. God wants you to teach and guide them and we know it takes time.
Worship at St. James is now accessible by the use of a new elevator located in the North West corner of the building. Please see an usher for help entering from Dickens Ave.
Parking is always available for both the church and the school on any street around the intersection of Dickens and Fremont. Additionally, those attending worship services on Sunday morning will also have access to the Lincoln Park High School parking lot on Armitage and Orchard (2000 N – 700 W). Parking is available from 7:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Sunday mornings. Please park your vehicle in the center parking lot between the two gates.
