A wedding is one of the most important and special times in a person’s life. It celebrates the joining of two lives and is a declaration to the world of a couple’s love for and commitment to one another.
Weddings are joyful times spent celebrating with family and friends, but once the service is over, the party has ended, and the guests have gone home, what remains is a marriage. Marriage is God’s idea, designed by Him to support community through the commitment of a man and a woman to build a home and family together. Here at St James our primary goal is to prepare a couple for marriage and to help them begin that marriage with a wonderful celebration of God’s love and plan for their lives. Our staff is available to help coordinate and facilitate the wedding event so that it goes as smoothly as possible.
Classes and Seminars
POWER OF WE
The Power of We* is a relationship enrichment workshop designed for couples entering into marriage or looking to improve communication in their relationship. This is a video-based group course with three 2-hour sessions taking place over the course of a weekend. The schedule typically begins with a class on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. followed by two classes on Saturday (9:30 a.m.) and Sunday (12:00 p.m.). All couples planning a wedding at St. James are required to take this course as a part of the pre-marital program. Register for Power of We.
*Pastor Robert Donovan adapted this course from a workshop called “The Power of We,” developed by psychologist, Dr. David Ludwig, of The Center for Family and Community Relationships at Lenoir-Rhyne College. It is based on the biblical concept that a healthy relationship values the “we” over the “me.” For more information, please visit their website at www.thinkwe.com.
Basics is a four-week overview of the Christian faith. The basics classes are suitable for persons desiring information about the Lutheran Church or for those who want to become a part of the St James fellowship but come from a non-lutheran background. The classes are required for those wishing to be married at St James.
Courses are offered once in the spring and once in the fall. Classes generally take place on Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m. and are repeated on Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. Register for Basics.
